Ribes Main street

The main street starts by the waterwheel, and serves as a dam across Ribe River. It was built around 1250 AD, and allowed people to cross the river on foot, for the first time - leading to its use today, and then, as the
main street. The dam splits the river into three narrow fast flowing streams, with substantial falls. The word dam is understood as being old for dyke, and the main street is split into the Upper Dam, Middle Dam and Lower Dam accordingly. The water drove the kings?, and later the common peoples, watermills. All the merchants had their houses and farms along the main street in the old days.
