The Tirslund Plantation with the Tirslund rock

The second largest granite rock in Denmark - the Tirslund Rock, is a giant rock of granite brought to Jutland during the ice age.

According to the saga, King Harald Blåtand wanted to use the stone as a memorial stone on the burial mound of King Gorm and Queen Thyra in Jelling. The stone was to be carried on a giant iron sledge, but attacks from enemies forced Harald Blåtand to abandon his project, and leave the stone behind.
The iron sledge is still buried deep in the ground together with a big treasure, it is said.

Many people have tried to climb the Tirslund rock, which has a circumference of about 16 metres and reaches a height of 3.5 m above ground level.

A signposted path runs through the plantation.
